Disappointed - Won't Use

"I was so excited to receive the mug I designed as a small Mother's Day gift to myself. I had selected one of the professional photos I had done for my son's 1 yr birthday to use on the mug, painstakingly aligned it on the mug designer and thought the end result would be delightful! When the package arrived I tore into it like a little kid, but.......
The product itself is nice. I like the over-sized mug and handle and the quality of the photo printing itself is top notch. The beautiful close-up image of my child, however, looks completely distorted unless you view the mug exactly at eye level and not tipped at all. It doesn't even resemble his likeness it's so drastic.
It makes total sense when I stop to think about it. An image printed on a cylinder would be distorted upon consideration. But it would have been nice for there to be some guidance along those lines on the design pages. I would have selected very different images and likely been happier with the outcome.
I don't know what I will ultimately do with the mug but I'm so humiliated by the way it warps the photo that I will, at best, hide it in the back of a cabinet and hope no one ever stumbles upon it. I might also accidentally let my cat knock if off a high surface and hope it breaks so I can throw it, since I have a hard time destroying photographs on my own.
I'd like to try again, but am not sure that I will given how crestfallen I was about this first attempt. :("
